You’re driving down the 405 during rush hour.
Car after car after car, and so on.
No matter if you try to relax, there’s still a hundred red flashing lights playing stop and go in front of you.
Whether this is traffic, work, a fight with a spouse or gf/bf, the call with your cell phone company, it all equates to tension and stress.
Miami has been listed as Thrillest’ most stressed out city.
110 million people die each year due to stress.
Continual high levels of cortisol, which is produced by stress, can be linked to the development of anxiety and depression.
So how do we make it stop?
We give in.
Think about that. You’ve tried to get comfortable while lying in bed, driving in your car, sitting on the couch or at the movies, etc. The more you uncontrollably fidgeted, the more uncomfortable you got.
As soon as you stopped moving and settled into the position and space, that tension was relieved.
It’s the same with your mind.
It’s been a crazy day, with so many to-dos, and we have to be at an event at a certain time after work, and there’s still that email we have to send…
If you sat and took a breath at that moment of worry, you’d notice your head rushing.
To avoid the dizzy spell of tasks and to-dos, take the storage container away. Put it on a piece of paper or an app like Asana. Anywhere out of your mind.
Most of all, give in.
Don’t collect all the emotions that come with the pulling strings of directions external to you.
Go inward and feel your body and mind start to release whatever it is and accept it as it is.
You’ll feel a whole lot better. And you’ll be less Miami… sorry, not sorry, Miami.
