Would you rather press a button to receive a jolt of electricity or sit quietly without anything to do?
As reality TV viewers say they watch because of the drama, it seems people are becoming ever increasingly bored with themselves.
Meditation is great, however, most of us do it for the benefits that come with it which can have the dangling carrot effect.
One stat that is undeniable: You will spend 100% of your life with yourself.
That’s not to say you will be alone during this time. It’s only a reminder that you can’t leave your body.
So why is it that people avoid spending idle time with nothing to do?
It’s because our minds are wired to look into the future.
The past shapes our memory of what to expect in the unforeseen. We gain pleasure in planning future events and how we might enjoy our time.
Sitting quietly will most likely move to the thinking of the future and how this present moment can shape what could take place.
If that is so, then why not spend your idle time envisioning positive outcomes and planning your life? What you’ll be doing is far more important in creating the person you want to be.
I don’t know about you, but that sounds a lot better than an electric shock.
